MEGALONG VALLEY:
The beautiful Megalong - the valley nestled below Blackheath in the Blue Mountains NSW.  A majestic, must visit place!

The valley offers tranquility, peace, serenity and much beauty.  Views looking upwards to the magnificent rugged sandstone cliffs of Blackheath, Medlow Bath and Katoomba, pastures with grazing stock and wildlife, pristine wilderness areas and the Cox's River meandering and winding through it.
The valley is still used for farming but offers a great deal for tourists as well.
Apart from the magnificent views, you can enjoy a picnic at one of the best picnic grounds in the Blue Mountains at the Old Ford Reserve, alongside Megalong Creek or have a picnic by the Cox's River.

Go horse-riding – beginners and experienced riders are all welcome at a number of horse riding establishments.  You can see the old steam engine in the valley and have a restful cuppa and Devonshire tea at the tea rooms.

There are a number of accommodation options offering genuine country hospitality - from executive retreats to lodges or cabins.
Then there is the Historic Six Foot Track - a 19th century bridle trail from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves.
It begins at the Explorers Tree at Katoomba, goes down through Nellies Glen and across the Megalong Valley to Coxs River. On the other side of the river, the trail crosses some ranges before reaching Jenolan Caves Road.  It then heads south to finish at Jenolan.
It was called the Six Foot Track because it had to be 6' wide in order to accommodate two to three riders riding abreast.

The name Megalong Valley comes from an Aboriginal word thought to mean 'Valley Under The Rock'. or 'Valley under the Cliff'.
