HARGRAVES LOOKOUT:
On the western side of Blackheath on Shipley Plateau and at the end of Shipley Road you will discover stunning panoramic views over the Megalong Valley.
You drive through the tiny village of Shipley traveling past the Megalong Valley Road turn off, continuing on through lovely mountain landscapes with apple orchards, our beautiful gum trees and more lush foliage.
Just before the turn off to Mount Blackheath Road on your left you will pass the Shipley Gallery showcasing local artists (Open Weekends 10am- 4pm).
Continue on keeping to the left fork, past Mount Blackheath Road, gradually climbing, with the road eventually becoming gravel for the last kilometre or so. (Distance from Blackheath 7.5K)
MOUNT BLACKHEATH LOOKOUT:
Mount Blackheath is at the very end of Shipley Plateau.
Follow Shipley Road turning right onto Mount Blackheath road and traveling to the end to see more beautiful views - this time over the Kanimbla Valley.
There are picnic tables and nearby is a ramp built for hang gliding - so if you are lucky you will be able to see gliders soaring over the valley.
The Blue Mountains Heritage Centre provides information on Blue Mountains National Park and surrounding areas - national parks walking track guides, maps, Aboriginal history, flora and fauna.
